Good news for Sydney sports fans, not so much live music

The New South Wales Government last week announced exemptions to its lockout laws for licensed venues. Not if they’re supporting live music… but if they’re screening major sporting events.

Sky News reported the NSW Government has made an exemption to the 1.30am lockout laws for some Olympic coverage, as well as the upcoming NRL Grand Final on October 2nd.

“While you might not be able to replicate the atmosphere in Rio, getting down to your local with some friends and cheering on our Aussie heroes has got to be the next best thing,” Deputy Premier Troy Grant said in a statement.

There is no word yet if other states, such as Queensland, plan to follow suit with similar exemptions.
