It’s no surprise US rapper Azealia Banks has beef with Aussies. She’s been involved in Twitter feuds with Iggy Azalea since 2012, which blew up at the end of last year in a race-related argument about perceived ‘white appropriation of black (hip hop) culture’ during which Banks referred to Azalea as “Igloo Australia”.
For the record, we’d like to point out that igloos probably belong in ANTARTICA, which is an entirely different continent… but, we digress…
It seems the beef continues, though, following Banks’ performance at Splendour in the Grass at the weekend.
By all accounts her Splendour performance was great (though the backing dancers got more of a rave by some reviewers than Ms. Banks did) however it seems the woman who notoriously shows up late to performances (maybe it’s a ‘black culture’ thing, as Ashanti and Ja Rule reportedly barely performed at their recent Australian shows as well) isn’t particularly taken with the Aussie fans, who gave Banks one of the biggest crowds at this year’s festival.
When a Brisbane radio announcer publicly congratulated Banks on completing her first Australian show in full, Banks told him (and the rest of us) how she really felt. This is how it went down:
And when this guy chimed in?
Now, we’re not sure if Banks usually refers to herself in the third person (“Do you even have Money to pay Azealias fees?”) or if she has someone running her social media for her (in which case, give us a call if you want social media managers who get you into the media for the right reasons) but either way, it doesn’t look good for future tours from the American.
Osher Günsberg (formerly known as Andrew G) wasn’t so unforgiving, tweeting:
EDIT: It’s still going:
