Ella Hooper officially enters her next chapter today with the release of Overnight Success, her fourth solo album and a sparkling celebration of everything she loves about Americana, storytelling and a little bit of chaos.
Recorded across multiple trips to Nashville, Overnight Success sees Ella fully embracing her Americana era, blending country-rock, alt-country, pop and plenty of her trademark wit across 11 tracks. It’s a record where the glitter and the grit happily sit side by side, there are intimate stories, big melodies, heartbreak, humour, growing older, desire and resilience all getting their moment.
From the raw and deeply personal When The Shit Went Down to the swooning country-rock swagger of Cowboy Man, Ella isn’t afraid to get vulnerable one minute and mischievous the next. The album also features previously released tracks Growing Up Is Hard To Do and I Got Eyes (On You), showcasing the breadth of a record that feels both polished and beautifully lived-in.
For Ella, Overnight Success represents a genuine creative leap, with the singer-songwriter spending multiple trips in Nashville working alongside some of the city’s finest musicians and producers to find a sound that feels completely her own.
“I’m not an easy act to pigeonhole; but God I feel like myself on this record,” Ella says.
And after decades in the Australian music spotlight, from Killing Heidi’s Weir and four ARIA Award-winning debut album Reflector, through to her acclaimed solo career and #1 Australian Country charting Small Town Temple, that sense of freedom feels particularly fitting.
Now, Ella is taking Overnight Success on the road, bringing her “shambolic fairy prom” aesthetic, powerhouse live band and new Americana songs to audiences around the country this October.
