You have just released Arms. How does it feel to have just released your first single of 2026? What emotions are you experiencing now that it’s finally out in the world?
It feels great! With this song I got to feel the excitement of the release without so much of the nerves. I’m excited to change it up moving forward. I also feel very happy that it’s this song in particular because it’s a song I wrote for my girlfriend.
What first inspired you to start making music, and when did you realize it was something you wanted to pursue seriously?
I’ve always thought it was a super cool and beautiful thing to do, listening to and playing music always made me feel great. And then one day I realised I could get that same feeling out of making my own songs so I just felt like I should definitely do that, and I can only do that if I’m really good at it, so it became something I took seriously.
What part of the music-making process do you enjoy the most – writing, recording, performing live, or something else?
It’s all really fun, but pretty much all of it is fun because you’re chasing the feeling you had when you first had the idea for whatever song it is you’re recording, performing, etc. That’s the best part.
How do you handle creative blocks when they happen?
Historically I become very afraid and freak out about it and then I’ll force myself to write a lot of things that I really don’t like and then a few months later I’ll listen back to all of it and find out that a few of the things I wrote really aren’t too bad and that’s how I’ve written a lot of my music. Nowadays I feel like whenever that happens, it’s because I’ve lost touch with what I fell in love with music for, and so I try to become a fan again for a while. Listen and admire.
What kind of music are you personally listening to the most right now?
I’m listening to Water From Your Eyes, Way Dynamic, Geese, King Crimson (the 80s stuff), and Joni Mitchell (the 90s stuff).
Is there a particular guitar in your collection that feels most connected to your songwriting process?
I guess out of all of them it would be my Hofner Verythin bass. Not the violin one, different model. It makes me wanna come up with fun basslines, which I like doing.
After releasing Arms, what’s the next creative step for you? More singles, an EP, or something else entirely?
More singles, I’ve got an album boiling away in the background somewhere. I’m keen to jump straight into new creative territory. The next song kicks that off a little I think.
